Oklahoma ESA Laws at a Glance
In Oklahoma, keeping an emotional support animal is a housing question, decided as a reasonable-accommodation request under the federal Fair Housing Act and 41 O.S. § 113.2. Since May 22, 2026, HUD reviews requests for untrained ESAs case by case, so Oklahoma's own rules below matter.
Oklahoma presumes that ESA documentation obtained by paying for goods or services is fraudulent. This rule may be in tension with federal fair housing law.

No. Neither federal nor Oklahoma law requires or recognizes ESA registration; what counts is documentation that meets 41 O.S. § 113.2(B).

If need isn't apparent, landlord may request reliable documentation tying disability to need and may verify it. Documentation obtained by paying for goods or services is presumed fraudulent. (41 O.S. § 113.2(B)).
Can my landlord in Oklahoma refuse my ESA or charge a pet fee?
The landlord must consider it as a reasonable-accommodation request under 41 O.S. § 113.2 and the federal Fair Housing Act.
